Bikepacking Against the Machine
Bikepacking Against the Machine
The Event returns for 2023
For many years we Bikepacked Against the Machine. Despite our efforts, the Machine got the upper hand and for a few years we could not Bikepack. Now, the turbles have tained, and we will Bikepack Against the Machine once more.
On the weekend of October 21st, Jeff from Wilde Bikes, our very special guest and co-sponsor, will join us for an overnight ride. Tobie from Mordecai Bookbuilding is busy making some creations for participants. Surly Bikes will send us some goodies, but sadly they cannot attend as they have in years past. Blame the Machine.
UPDATE: The weather is looking lovely, and we have settled on this route. It’ll be roughly 25 miles each way. That is to say, we’ll start at the beginning on Saturday, October 21st, ride 25 miles, camp overnight, and ride back to the cars (another 25 miles) on Sunday, October 22nd. Here are some other important details:
The route ends at a campsite, but it’s possible that site will be full when we arrive. Thus, we might not camp exactly where the route ends, but it’ll be near there.
Plan to carry and provide your own stuff. There will not be a car/van/party bus/taco truck waiting for us at the campsite. You’ll need all of the food, water, essentials that you’d need if you were doing this alone. Yawp! Cyclery and Wilde Bikes will be there to provide good looks and high quality insults, but that is all.
Depart time is noon on Saturday. Arrive whenever, but we’re leaving the Buffalo Creek parking lot at noon. Noon, I tells ya!
There are no outhouses or facilities of any kind out there, so bring your trowel.
The route will not be marked, so if you’re unfamiliar with the area it might be wise to have it uploaded on your navigational device. We don’t intend to drop anyone, but given the complicated nature of bikepacking with many individuals, it’s best if everyone knows where they’re going in case of mechanicals/emergency whisky breaks/and etc.
Water: UPDATE There’s a creek just south of where we intend to camp, and it is running. Bring a filter if you like.
Terrain: There are zero paved miles on this route. There is some very mild singletrack at the end (descending Sandy Wash), but most of this route is dirt road.
Parking: We’re parking in the main Buffalo Creek parking lot at the beginning/end of the route.
If we’ve forgotten to mention something you want to know, give us a shout! See you on Saturday!
